Welcome to Salmon University. This site will show you where, when, and how to catch salmon. This site is designed from the ground up as an educational site. It is an ongoing project, which we will be updating. We will add destination articles, how-to lessons, and in-season updates, to give you the latest on where, when, and how to improve your saltwater angling opportunities.

If you'd like to be informed when we add a section or update the site, click here and fill out our info entry form, and who knows, you just might win some free tackle, too!

This site is based primarily on saltwater fishing in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. Learning how to saltwater fish in the Pacific Northwest is a complex subject that has a wealth of information available... this website is designed to help break the material down and present it in a user-friendly format that is simple to navigate. We have designed the site to be easy for everyone from beginners to lifetime sports anglers, to the seasoned professional salmon fishermen, anyone looking for quality information to expand their knowledge about fishing for the revered fish of the Northwest.

Capt. Tom Nelson with a Beautiful Speciman

Here's a brief explanation of the different sections of the site:

Regions: In the regions section, you can click, zoom, and navigate to the areas you are interested in. For instance, say you click on "Washington", you will then see a map of Washington. Now click on the region within Washington that you are interested in, say you pick "Puget Sound South". When you see the map of Puget Sound South, click on one of the highlighted fishing areas on the map, and now you'll see an in-depth article about exactly where, when, and how to fish that particular spot... it's that easy.

Species: This section gives you some background information on the different species you'll be fishing for in the salt.

Education: The education section will give you the information you need to become an efficient and successful angler. The Online Lessons are intended to give you a solid fishing education foundation. Like the rest of the site, we will continue to add to the Lessons and Tips Section. For the angler that wants a more intensive learning experience, we also offer a Classroom Course. The Classroom Course takes place in the Seattle area in March each year.

Online Resources: These resources are links for you to use when you're ready to go fishing. There are links to tide predictors, weather forecasts, and some online charts and maps. The education section will teach you how to use and decipher this info. If you still have a question, however, you can email one of our pros in the "Ask the Pros" section.

Updates: This will become your favorite section. Just like you anxiously await the next issue of your favorite magazine, so will you be chomping at the bit for our next update. This section is a list of quick links to the latest articles, in-season updates, lessons, etc. that we've added to the site. If you have any comments or questions about the site, or again, if you'd like to be informed via email when we add a section or update the site, click here and fill out an info entry form.

Thanks to our generous sponsors, this site is free to all of you. Enjoy the site, and good fishing!
