Tom Nelson

 

Tom Nelson is known as the "Dean of Saltwater Fishing".

Over 5,000 students have attended his Saltwater Fishing classes at Highline, Bellevue and Green River Community Colleges and Salmon University.

He is the featured saltwater expert at the west coast Boat Shows, International Sportsman's shows and seminars in the Northwest.

Tom helped develop many of the techniques and lures used by West Coast sports anglers.

He has written numerous articles for various NW outdoor publications.

Tom's boat, a 24' North River Seahawk O/S named Salmon University, is one of the most recognized boats on Puget Sound and in British Columbia.

Terry Wiest

 

Salmon University Webmaster Terry Wiest is a native Washingtonian and grew up fishing the Cedar and Green Rivers along with the Puget Sound where he learned how to fish from his Dad.

An avid Salmon and Steelhead Fisherman, you can find Terry fishing all over the Pacific Northwest during all times of the year. Not only Steelhead and Salmon, but Lingcod and Halibut are also targeted species.

Terry is also very active with the Puget Sound Anglers and is now the Past-President of the South King County Chapter, serving in that capacity from 2004 thru 2006. Terry has written articles published in Fishing & Hunting News, The Reel News and Washington/Oregon Fish & Game.

Terry fishes from his 23' Shamrock named "Lucky" while in the Sound or Ocean, or you can usually find him "banking" numerous rivers throughout the region.

He is the Host of Steelhead University.

Jack Glass

Jack Glass has been guiding on the Columbia and Sandy rivers full time for over 20 years and is a steward of the waters he fishes. He started fishing northwest Oregon rivers at age 8, and began professionally guiding in May of 1983. He specializes in fishing the Sandy and Columbia Rivers for Chinook and Steelhead. Jack and his wife Shelly operate Jack'Snack'N Tackle Shop in Troutdale OR, located on the banks of the Sandy River. Jeff Boyer

Jeff Boyer is a former public educator. Jeff began a fulltime fishing career in 1985. He competes nationally for Ranger Boats, Mercury Marine, Lowrance Electronics, Shimano, and MotorGuide. His career includes many roles (guide, writer, editor, television host, photographer, consultant), but his favorite is seminar speaker and instructor.

Jeff is especially known for his expertise with marine electronics. Having been with Lowrance since 1983, SONAR and GPS are integral parts of his personal fishing approach. He combines his talents to create unique seminars that have helped thousands of anglers finally capitalize on today's technology. Entertaining as well as educational, his presentations are always highly praised.

Tom Pollack

Tom Pollack has been in the sporting goods retail business for over 45 years and is resident fishing expert at Auburn Sports & Marine. Tom is more commonly known as "Mr. Moocher". He is an avid salmon and walleye fisherman. Tom has been fishing, crabbing and shrimping in Puget Sound since he was 10 years old.

He can be seen regularly lecturing at Sportsmen Shows, the Seattle Boat Show and local fishing clubs.

Tom is an active member of Puget Sound Anglers and the Western Walleye Club and is very involved with improving fishing opportunities in the Northwest where he serves on the Puget Sound Recreational Advisory Committee, Northwest Marine Trade Association Fishing Committee, and the Inland Warm Water Advisory Committee.

Tom is a regular contributor to Fishing & Hunting News and various Newspapers for local fishing reports. Tom writes a monthly column for The Reel News. He is also in charge of the central Puget Sound service center for Scotty downrigger's.

Terry Rudnick

Terry Rudnick is a freelance outdoor writer/photographer/speaker specializing in Pacific Northwest fishing, hunting and boating subjects. Since beginning his career more than 35 years ago, he has had over 1,000 articles and photos published in more than two-dozen regional and national publications.

Rudnick also is a book author. His first book, Washington Fishing, is the most comprehensive angling guide ever written about the state's freshwater and saltwater angling opportunities, and is now in its sixth edition. He also co-authored How to Catch Trophy Halibut, the complete guide to recreational halibut fishing along the entire West Coast. Both Washington Fishing and How to Catch Trophy Halibut have received excellence awards from the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association. A third book, Washington Boating and Water Sports, was published in the spring of 2000.

An enthusiastic and entertaining speaker, Rudnick has given more than 250 slideshows and seminars on a variety of freshwater and saltwater angling topics not only throughout the Pacific Northwest but to audiences in California, Utah, Colorado and Texas.

Rudnick is now the youth sportfishing coordinator for Washington's Department of Fish and Wildlife, responsible for organizing fishing events and activities for kids throughout the state.

Besides his more than two-dozen awards for writing and photography, Rudnick has received the national Silver Trout Award for Communications from Trout Unlimited and the Ken McLeod Journalism Award from the King County Outdoor Sports Council.

Michael Jamboretz

Michael Jamboretz is the Owner/Operator of Jambo's Sportfishing specializing in Halibut and Salmon Charters. He operates the MaliaKai, a 37' Delta Charterboat, fishing the Pacific Ocean out of Neah Bay from May through August, then returns to Puget Sound to run Sport Fishing charters for Coho and Blackmouth.

Jambo's Sportfishing has been featured on Fox Sports Northwest and will have two more fishing shows airing this fall on the Hawg Quest TV show. Michael has well over 30 years fishing experience in the Northwest from Oregon to Alaska and is an active member of the Sno-King Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers. He is a member of the National Association of Charterboat Operators and The Charterboat Association of Puget Sound. He is also on the pro-staff for Joes Outdoors and several tackle manufacturers.

Anton Jones

Anton Jones along with his wife Sandra and his son Darrell own and operate Darrell & Dad's Family Guide Service out of the Lake Chelan valley since 2000.

He has fished Lake Chelan since 1994 specializing in deepwater trolling for Mackinaw while entertaining groups that usually include children.

His emphasis is to demystify the techniques involved in ultra-deep downrigger trolling.

Additionally, Darrell & Dad's Family Guide Service offers guided fishing trips on Rufus Woods Reservoir and Roses Lake.

Ward Bond

Ward Bond is a lifelong resident of Vancouver Island and co-owner of Island Outfitters Sportfishing Centre (www.fishingvictoria.com). Ward has guided and fished the west coast of British Columbia, both fresh and salt water.

Ward will teach you when, where and how to fish some of the most productive salmon and halibut waters on Vancouver Island. Ward is not only an ardent fisherman, but is past chair of the Victoria Sports Fishing Advisory Board.

Paul Marander

Paul is General Manager for Outdoor Emporium in Seattle. Paul has spent many years in management in the marine trade industry and brings to our seminar many years of experience in the boating arena.

Paul will educate you on making your boat Coast Guard legal. He will talk about gear and new safety equipment that every angler should have on his boat for safety and success. Learning to be a better boater goes hand in hand with learning to be a better fisherman.
