A Deadly 5 Color Spread

This particular spread works great for two completely different situations. In May and June when the Great Lakes are cold and the fish are scattered throughout the water column this spread is deadly.

As shown in the diagram we are running 5 colors of leadcore with spoons on our outside planer boards. Depending on the speed of your troll these lures will be in the 20-30 foot range. On our inside two planer boards we are running 5 color of leadcore with a Michigan Stinger Dive Bomb. This weight is designed to attach on the line and dive/sink to take your lure deeper. The unique design of the Dive Bomb makes it a great option for add on weight. You can add the dive bomb after you have let out your entire core. The dive bomb will attach to your backing.

We usually let out 100-150 feet of backing after attaching the dive bomb. The amount of line you let out after attaching the dive bomb will change the overall depth of the rig. With 100-150 feet of line out and a 4 ounce dive bomb this set up will run down between 40-45 feet. These 5 colors have flasher fly combos mainly to target King Salmon. Early in season the 5 colors with spoons will produce all species at one time or another.

The other time this spread is very productive is late in August when the Kings start making their way to their staging areas. Usually they will set up in 50-75 feet of water for awhile before shooting to their staging zone. While they are set up in 50-75 feet of water this spread is very productive.

One change we make this time of year is put a Silverhorde plug on the outside boards in place of the spoon.
