WDFW: Chinook retention suspended in Marine Area 9

Chinook retention suspended in MA 9

Action: Suspends retention of Chinook salmon in Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet).

Effective date: 12 a.m. Aug. 5, 2021, until further notice.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet).

Rule: Salmon daily limit is 2. No min. size. Release all Chinook, chum, and wild coho.

Reason for action:  The current estimate of Chinook harvest is 4,418 (94 percent) of the total 4,700 harvest quota agreed up in this year’s List of Agreed Fisheries (LOAF). Because 94 percent of the Chinook harvest quota has been met, Chinook retention is closing in order to preserve coho and pink opportunities in Area 9.

Additional Information: This FRC does not affect the mark-selective Coho fishery, which will continue as planned.

Information contact: Fish Program, 360 902-2700.
