Marine Area 9 (Admirality Inlet)
Lots of current! This past week the water was really moving in Area 9 with some big HIGH TIDES. With that , the “catching” reports calmed down a bit. It is looking a lot better this week so the fishing should pick up. Try the North East corner of Possession in the 60-90 range with your Scotties just a few feet off the bottom. Keep any eye out for herring balls and stay on ’em. Don’t forget get the ol Cookies n Crème 3.5 spoon!
See you on the water!

Marine Area 11
The Blackmouth (immature chinook) fishing has improved in the usual areas this time of year like Quarter Master Harbor, the Slag and The shelf/flats area between Pt. Dalco and the Gig Harbor shoreline.
Trolling seems to be working best right now to cover as much water as possible, so look for bait and stay in that area. Flasher and spoons or artificial squid have been productive and there has been a good amount of fish caught in 170’ to 190’ of water.
For those who would like to use lighter gear there has been a fair amount of immature Coho and Cut throat trout to be had.
Most squid action at Redondo, Des Moines, and Dash Point but a few at Point Defiance. For a more updated report call (253)404-3960.
There is no crabbing in MA 11 or 13
Point Defiance Marina has rental boats and motors and launch and overnight moorage facilities with pump out stations and shore power. Freshwater – Greys Harbor Rivers
Team ARSC guides finally got a break in the weather and made a few trips this week and weekend with good success!
There’s now a mix of hatchery steelhead and wild steelhead which is making for some good opportunity to catch a trophy wild fish and maybe take a hatchery fish for dinner.
Our go to techniques are free-drifting cured eggs or prawns, and float fishing with bobber and jig.

Becher Bay
Salmon fishing was GOOD near Becher Bay. This past week the salmon were between Church Rock and the Bedfords. A 16 lb spring was caught at that location and a 12 lb spring was taken by Whirl Bay. The best depths to fish for springs have been between 120 to 140 feet on the downrigger There have been lots of small springs inside the bay and throughout the area. The fish have not been too picky about what they will strike and anglers are mostly using spoons and plastics for lures. Good spoons have been Skinny G’s, Coho Killers and Coyotes with glow on them. Needlefish hootchies in White, Glow/Green and Purple Haze are the top choices in plastic baits. Large anchovies wee working too and effective choices for teaser head are Chartreuse, Tiger Prawn and Bloody Nose. The GIBBS Highliner Guide Series Outfitters, the Betsey, and Gold Fever Hot Spot flashers have been working well.

Oak Bay
Fishing for springs was FAIR on the flats but most of the fish were small. There had been larger fish out at Border Bank. Anglers had also been reporting springs up to 10 lbs on the Flats in 100-140 depths. Trollers had been catching the salmon trolling small spoons; Coho killers, Wee G’s and AP Sandlance spoons. Most of the anglers have been bottom bouncing squirts and spoons or jigging close to the bottom. Best bets for Oak Bay trolling lures are Wee Gs, Skinny Gs, Coho Killers and AP Tackleworks Sandlance spoons. Squirts will also work with Jelly fish and Electric Chairs good bets. Jiggers are using Deep Stingers and Point Wilson Darts.

Pedder Bay
Pedder Bay Marina reports REALLY GOOD salmon fishing in Whirl Bay and inside Pedder Bay near the Green can buoy. Anglers were catching springs up to 9.7 lbs in size and many limits caught within a short time were reported. The fish have been close to the bottom and there is lots of bait in the area. Spoons have been the most popular lures, with the 4” Silver Horde UV herring Aid the “hot” lure. Coyote spoons have also worked well as the fish are targeting herring and not needlefish. Hootchies and squirts are still working with green and glow, Purple Haze or UV white good color choices. Flashers that are popular include the Guide Series Madi, Outfitters and Lemon Lime. Good choices for teaser head colors are Bloody Nose, Chartreuse and Purple Haze.

Sidney
Salmon fishing was FAIR in the Sidney area but most of the springs were under the size required for retention. There are herring entering the inlet and drawing the salmon with them. Satellite Channel has been producing well for both salmon and prawns. Moresby Island also had some fish and the Sidney channel, from the Red Can to the James island Powder Wharf areas has held fish. Suggested spoons are Coho Killers, Gibbs Needle G and Wee G spoons and AP Sandlance spoons. Suggested colours are Green/glow and blue/glow. Anchovies and Tiny Strip were also good in Glow or UV Purple teaser heads.

Sooke
Salmon fishing was GOOD this past weekend. Most anglers have been fishing from just outside the Secretary Island to Otter Point. The fish have been close to the bottom in 100-150 feet depths. Spoons such as Skinny G’s, Coho Killers and 4″ Coyote spoons have been good. Green and glow has been the hot color combination for spoons. Hootchies in White, Glow/Green and Purple Haze are the top choices in plastic baits. Anchovies and herring have been good as well. Good choices for teaser head colors are Chartreuse, Tiger Prawn and Bloody Nose. Popular flashers have been the Delta Guide Series UV Moon Jelly, Lemon Lime, Madi and the Super Betsey.

Victoria
Overall, salmon fishing has been GOOD. There were lots of small salmon from 3-5 lbs throughout the area, but also some bigger ones. Saturday produced the largest fish with a 20.5 lb spring caught off Albert head on a 10 pack anchovy fished in a Green Glow teaser behind a Madi Flasher. Also on Saturday, a 15 lb spring was caught off Clover Point. The salmon have been down along the bottom so most anglers are fishing deep. Spoons are working well with Skinny G’s and Coho Killers in Irish Cream, Brass/Silver and the 4” AP Tackleworks 4” MVP herring spoon good choices. Herring strip was also catching lots of fish.

Vancouver
We have seen a good start to our 2019 winter chinook fishery in Howe Sound and the Harbor. We have seen an abundance of bait in the harbor that has made for some solid days on the water. Howe Sound continues to be where we spend most of our time, with good fishing and the scenery being second to none. Not only has there been good days in Howe Sound but we expect it to get better with the herring spawn over the coming months. Our winter fishery is truly special and is one of the best experiences of the year.
Our 2019 Winter chinook salmon is here and so is our annual “Winter Chinook Charter Special! Like we do every year, we are offering fully guided winter fishing charters at a great rate from January 15th to March 31st. This year we are offering full day trips (8 hours) for a great price. We have enjoyed good fishing so far this winter and we are hoping and anticipating more productive trips over the next couple months! Winter salmon fishing is truly our favorite fishery of the year. If you have not tried, this is a great way to give it a shot! The amazing scenery is worth the trip alone!
In addition to the salmon fishing, we drop prawn and crab traps on the way out to the fishing grounds. The prawning has been very productive over the last couple seasons.
On our Vancouver fishing trips no previous saltwater fishing experience is required and we supply all the fishing equipment. Our boats are rigged are rigged to perfection with new Mercury and Yamaha Outboards, Island Reels, Scotty Downriggers and all the hot winter chinook gear from Gibbs Delta Tackle.
