Action: Opens a portion of the Cascade River to fishing for hatchery spring Chinook, Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Effective date: May 29 through July 15, 2024.

Species affected: Chinook salmon.

Location: Cascade River (Skagit County) from mouth to the Rockport-Cascade Road Bridge.

Rules:

  • Open Wednesdays through Saturdays only.
  • Daily limit four (4) hatchery Chinook including no more than two (2) adults. 12-inch minimum size. Release all other salmon.
  • Night closure and anti-snagging rule in effect.
  • This area is closed to fishing for all species Sundays through Tuesdays.
  • Gamefish seasons do not open until June 1 (see rules pamphlet for daily limits and size restrictions, notwithstanding Sunday through Tuesday closure above).

Reason for action:  Harvestable numbers of hatchery spring Chinook are forecast to return to Marblemount Hatchery. The sport fishery will only be open four days per week to prevent gear conflicts with tribal fisheries. Like last season, tribal fisheries are scheduled Sundays through Tuesdays.

Additional information: Anglers are asked to cooperate with creel personnel collecting catch information. Monitoring and evaluation of fisheries is an important part of ensuring we are meeting our conservation goals for salmon.
